Unique Venue Seminar: Exploring the Role of Unique Venues in a New Era of Business Event Promotion
On July 23, 2026, the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) hosted the Unique Venue Seminar: Exploring the Role of Unique Venues in a New Era of Business Event Promotion at the Japan Gallery Auditorium of the National Museum of Nature and Science.
The seminar welcomed 54 participants, including representatives from facilities interested in utilizing their venues as unique event spaces and DMOs seeking to leverage unique venues in their areas to support regional revitalization. Attendees gathered to learn more about the appeal of unique venues and how they can be used.
The program began with a keynote presentation titled "What is MICE? Understanding the Potential of Unique Venue Utilization for Facilities," followed by a panel discussion featuring representatives from several facilities already making active use of their spaces as unique venues.
Titled "The First Step Toward Unique Venue Utilization: Evolving into a Venue of Choice," the panel discussion brought together speakers from the National Museum of Nature and Science, Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan, and Sumida Aquarium. Seated on high stools arranged on stage, the panelists shared insights into how they began using their facilities as unique venues and discussed the changes and outcomes they have experienced through this initiative.
Following the seminar, participants were invited on a guided tour of the National Museum of Nature and Science. The museum uses the corridors and central staircase of the Japan Gallery, which is designated as an Important Cultural Property, for filming and wedding photography. The exhibition hall on Basement Level 2 of the Global Gallery is also used as a venue for concerts and other events. As they toured the museum, participants envisioned how its historic architecture and exhibition spaces could be incorporated into event production.
During the 30-minute facility tour, the seminar venue was transformed into a networking reception space. Changes in lighting, together with party tables decorated with artificial flowers, created an atmosphere entirely different from the seminar setting. The reception setup gave participants a practical sense of how the venue could be used while providing an opportunity to deepen their connections.
Participants also commented that unique venues not only leave a lasting impression on event attendees but also give facilities an opportunity to showcase their distinctive appeal to a wider audience by offering experiences and value unique to each venue.
Attractive unique venues are an important component of destination promotion and continue to play a significant role in the business events industry.
